Printing onto gold leaf

I have started to experiment with printing straight onto the gold leaf instead of using decals. I use an ink jet medium first. The first one I printed worked really well but it took two weeks to dry and it is still very delicate so will not be any good for a boxed set of images. It will need to be framed and never touched. The second time I tried to print the printer (Epsom 2400) kept spitting out the paper. It too approximately 30 times of re-feeding the paper before it would print. I love the quality of the image it produces on the gold. It is much more embedded into the gold and little idiosyncrasies appear in the image as is dries which I really like. It reminds me more and more of a Daguerreotype

Golden Drawings

I have started to experiment with line drawing and gold leaf applied to Mick's hair and lips. I have copied the image using carbon paper. I am not keen on the line that this creates so I am going to shade the back of the image with pencil and transfer it using that method then go over the line with pen and rub out the pencil line.

Gold Leaf

I have started having success with gold leaf at last after a long time of experimenting. The image looks different as the light hits it on various angles. It references daguerreotype images and negatives. The gold coming through the image is really beautiful. I am happy with the edges of the image and of the gold leaf. I painted black underneath the gold.

There is a doubling. Gold as a precious metal is desirable and can be made into objects of desire. Mick is desirable and images of him are objects of my desire. By creating a "golden Mick" I have created a double object of desire.
